Patina:
Bronze Becomes
More Beautiful with Age
Over time, Bronzework Studio tiles will
develop a rich, mellow patina. You will see the patina begin to appear
within a few weeks, and you can watch it mature over the years.
Our
Traditional Bronze first becomes warmer and more golden; ultimately it
matures to a deep, luminous brown. Our White Bronze has a slightly
grayer, cooler tone at each stage.
When you use our tiles in a floor, bright time-worn paths appear as the
high points of the tiles are polished by your footsteps. Like the shiny
nose of a well-loved statue, these are beautiful rewards that come only
with age.
In wet locations the patina may eventually show hints of soft green.
Outdoors, the patina process is accelerated and ultimately an opaque
green patina will develop.
We believe our tiles look best with a natural patina; however, you can
keep your tiles bright indefinitely by cleaning them regularly with a
soft abrasive pad, such as Scotch Brite (even in a wet location such as
a shower). A soft abrasive or a little brass polish will also restore
the original brightness to patinaed tiles.
Applying a light coat of paste wax will slow the natural patina process.
To stop the patina process entirely we can recommend a company that
seals the tiles with a clear epoxy coating, similar to what you would
find on your kitchen faucet. You can also lacquer the tiles after they
have been installed.
